Policy & Advocacy

The Southern Plains Tribal Health Board (SPTHB) serves the 43 federally recognized tribes in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. SPTHB conducts health policy, legislative analysis and advocacy in our 3-state area. In coordination with the Indian Health Service (IHS), SPTHB analyzes the IHS budget and other financing programs that impact Indian healthcare programs. We strive to present the tribal perspective while monitoring federal and state legislation and opening opportunities to network with other national and state health care organizations to engage their support on Indian health care issues.

SPTHB values are rooted in our Native American history, our shared culture of courage and perseverance in the face of homeland removal and suffering. We believe in servant leadership, accountability, respect, innovation, excellence and integrity. These are the pillars of our advocacy and action, guiding our efforts to create meaningful change and improve the well-being of Native peoples. By concentrating on these areas, we work collaboratively to ensure healthier, more resilient futures for Tribal Nations.
